- Hydrogel Monobloc® Sizers Breast Implant with completely biocompatible and biodegradable filler!
- Envelope with almost twice the elastic strength compared with silicone gel implants.
- For the patient, no longer the need for MRI to detect a rupture: the breast will deflate slightly in an almost painless manner.
- The hydrogels are completely transparent to X-rays, making the interpretation of mammograms as easy as on a non-implanted patient.
About Arion Laboratoires
In 1965 Doctor H.G. Arion, plastic surgeon and physician, invented the first inflatable prosthesis in the world.
Today, the Laboratoires Arion always have various innovations ahead and develop breast implants of high level which offer a perfect biocompatibility,
an optimal security and a highly esthetic result.
Therefore, if the Laboratoires Arion are a worldwide reference in terms of breast implants, it is obviously due to their know-how and competence.
What is a breast implant?
The breast implant is a flexible envelope (a silicone pocket) that is already completed and its contents cannot be modified once the implant is finalised.
What is the purpose of breast implants?
They can be used for reconstruction or augmentation, to correct or improve certain imperfections, shapes and/or contours.
This is a cosmetic surgery that can increase both the breasts, correcting any volume differences between them.
Replacement of previous implants
This surgery concerns the replacement of an old implant with a new one.
This is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the natural shape of a breast lost after an illness or accident.
I would like to increase the volume of my breasts. Where do I start?
The first step is to consult a trusted plastic surgeon. By doing this, you will have a proper guidance and answers to all your doubts and questions.
Can I undergo breast implant surgery in total safety?
Obviously, surgery using breast implants requires a careful preliminary investigation of the health of the patient to assess critical pre- and post-operative conditions, these conditions being largely responsible for the overall success of the procedure. Post-operative recovery takes place in the recovery room during about two hours and after returning home, there must be a rest period of 5 to 10 days, without too much effort or physical exercise. Your surgeon will give you an appointment for a check-up a few days after the surgery and several other consultations during the first year, usually 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the implant placement.
Can the silicone breast implant cause allergies or health risks?
Breast implants are tested for biocompatibility. However, there are risks specific to breast implants and the invasive nature of the operation. These risks are discussed non-exhaustively in another paragraph dedicated to this topic. In all cases, your surgeon is required to inform you before the operation of all the risks.
Can the breast implant cause breast cancer?
So far, there is no historical or clinical study that establishes a correlation between increased rates of breast cancer in women and silicone breast implants.
How to choose the breast implants best suited for me?
Your surgeon, after a thorough and careful study, proposes the ideal size and type of implant that best suits your profile. There are various models and sizes in the market, but it is very important to choose one that offers the best cosmetic results, while providing greater comfort and safety. For example, Monobloc® breast implants from Arion are produced based on a unique technological advance and their finishing does not have any bonded parts, providing unmatched flexibility, which avoids the risk of loosening, material failure or any disturbance that can cause leaks – this makes them very safe, comfortable and strong.
What is the lifespan of a breast implant?
There is no fixed life time for a breast implant. Several factors are involved in its life span. The new generations available in the market, made with high performance materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, as in the case of Arion Monobloc® breast implants, allow a longer period, up to 10 years for our silicone implants and 8 years for our Hydrogel and Saline breast implants.
Do breast implants interfere with the mammography procedure?
Unlike Monobloc® Hydrogel and Saline breast implants, silicone gel-filled breast implants are not transparent to X-rays, it is for this reason that the radiologist should be aware of the presence of the implant and must be skilled in the interpretation of radiographs made on a breast implant filled with silicone gel. Further information is available in our leaflet, available from your surgeon.
At what age can a breast implant be placed?
Breast formation is completed at the end of puberty. However, it is recommended to wait until the age of 18 to perform surgery with a breast implant. It is important to wait not only for the completion of organic growth, but also the psychological maturity of the patient. In case you need breast implant before the age of 18, the minor patient must have the permission of her legal guardian.
Does the placement of a breast implant modify local sensitivity?
In general, there is a decrease in the sensitivity of the nipple and areola, or near the point where the implant was placed. In most cases this is temporary and rarely definitive. Sensitivity returns after a few weeks or months.
How long does it take to get results after placement?
The average time to start seeing the expected results is three months after the operation. Full results can be seen from the 6th month, because the implants are fully positioned and will continue to shape the breasts until they find their shape and optimal position.
Which are the regulations covering the breast implants?
Breast implants like all medical devices are subject to the requirements of the European Directive 93/42/EEC, transposed into French law through the Public Health Code. The Appendix I of the Directive includes the essential requirements to which the medical devices are subjected.
Is it true that medical devices may be placed in the market without clinical evaluation?
No, clinical evaluation is a regulatory requirement without which no medical device can be placed in the market, as stated in the Appendix X of the European Directive.
Are there inspections carried out on the manufacturers?
Yes, the notified body which issues the CE mark (the GMED) conducts an audit of our quality system and our company every year. In addition, with the strengthening of regulation, ANSM (formerly AFSSAPS) and GMED each of these bodies will be able (thanks to a new regulation) to make an unannounced inspection every year.
What are the most common risks with silicone gel implants?
The first is the formation of capsular contracture. When a foreign object is introduced into the body, the immune system tries to destroy it. The macrophages ingest the foreign body to digest it; however, in the case of a breast implant, the foreign body is too large. The immune system will then isolate it from the rest of the body forming a fibrous capsule around the implant, this is inevitable. Over time, this capsule hardens and causes pain.
Contrary to what has been said in the media and elsewhere, the biggest danger is not the autoimmune disease (it has been shown that this risk is almost nil) but siliconoma. With time, the silicone oils perspire through the implant and can spread throughout the body and create what we call siliconomas. Our implants are equipped with barrier layers to prevent this phenomenon to the maximum extent. In addition, we offer implants filled with hydrogel, totally biodegradable, as an alternative to silicone implants. For more information visit our dedicated page
Are all breast implants the same?
Obviously not, the most striking and notorious example is that of PIP implants. But apart from these implants, there are other very significant differences between different brands of implants. Some manufacturers use a gel with a very low “shape memory,” that is to say that the speed of return to normal shape of the breast after palpation is very low.
In addition, all manufacturers, except Laboratoires ARION, glue the patch of the implant with different levels of finish depending on the brand. This bonding process results in an increased risk of rupture of the implant. We use a method developed by Dr. H-G. ARION because of which we have never encountered cases of implants ruptured due to a detached patch.
What to do in case of problems with my implants?
You should first contact your surgeon. He is the person who best knows your medical history and is the best person to answer your question.
